I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting the voices of Arnold and Helga at Indiana Comic Con on Saturday! They were, of course, 100% of my motivation for going. I had intended to post here about my desire to go, but wasn't actually sure my friends and I could make it happen. I didn't want to get my hopes up. Thankfully we made it work. :D Cue my fangirling!!!

It didn't take me long after arriving to beeline toward Francesca and Toran. I just couldn't resist! I sort of wish I'd milled around a little more and posed for other pics to loosen up first, because I look quite nervous in our picture. Of course they were everything I was expecting - easygoing, lovely people! With such beautiful hair, too! :D

I'm embedding a few photos into this post, but they are f-locked so you'll only see them if I've added you as a friend.

In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed.

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

Try as I might to keep up with the lovely snowflake_challenge, I've missed the last few, so I will just skip them. Truth be told, I wasn't feeling them. To explain why I would be depressing so I would rather just move on to Day 6 now.

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.

I get very anxious thinking about creating and posting something same-day. I thought about making icons, but I can't get Paint Shop Pro to work on this laptop anymore. So instead, I'm sharing a few inked drawings. Not created today, but in recent months (never shared online). Hopefully that isn't too much of a cop-out! :P Drawing has been my choice creative outlet for the past six months or so. Mostly faces and figures from photos with style experimentation.

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

1. Icons of Asami or Korra/Asami. :D I haven't found very many around here! I'd say new icons in general are pretty hard to find these days. Style-wise, one of my favorite kinds of icons are ones with distant but easily identifiable figures with lots of negative space or a simple setting around them, without text.

2. Angsty Draco fanworks or recs. I just never tire of seeing Draco Malfoy being put through the wringer. :P Whether due to external circumstances or just his own mental and emotional journey, I certainly do like to see Draco come to a good place in the end, I just feel like he needs to suffer a lot first, lol.

3. Anything Michonne-centric! I am 100% in love with Michonne from The Walking Dead and have managed to find a few small fics, but there really needs to be more. Fic, drabbles, fanart, icons, gifs. I just want to explore and celebrate this character who is the #1 reason I watch The Walking Dead, and someone who I relate to and cannot get enough of. I am fascinated with the way she has survived during the outbreak, and eventually, tried to open herself up to friendships with Andrea, and more successfully with Carl. Also sword.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I have decided to go with three that I always felt went under the radar a bit. :)

Hand in Hand - Roswell, Isobel & Maria, double drabble, rated PG
Prompt: Snapshot. Post-series.

Promise - BBC Merlin, Arthur-centric, poem, rated G
Arthur has always striven to prove himself.

War Paint - HP, Harry/Draco, poem, rated R
Harry needs someone who can cut him open the right way.

Long time, no LJ!

[1] I ate a grasshopper today. xD Ever since I watched the Why Not Eat Insects? Ted Talk, the idea has been interesting to me. My dad cooked some today, so I tried one. It was not pleasant experience, lol. Maybe if it were differently prepared though...? #countrylivin'

[2] Tomorrow I will be on a mini vacation with a friend until Friday. We are renting a little cottage on Lake Huron. Excited! Minimal to no internet. Will try to take pics and post upon return.

[3] Now I'm just going to babble about various things I have been consuming lately:

Legend of Korra (tv/streaming) - My new favorite thing right now, tbh. It has been fun to fall in love with something animated again (I haven't really loved anything animated since Hey Arnold). The action scenes are brilliant (haven't really loved action on tv this much since Xena!). And the female characters. Korra, Jinora, Beifong, Asami... I'm so grateful a show like LoK exists right now. There aren't nearly enough action women in leading roles these days. I know discussions on strong female characters these days always emphasize characterization over physical power--and I agree, the term "strong female character" has never meant anything else to me--but I'm very greedy, and I want both. I have always loved watching action ladies kicking butt.

Orphan Black (tv) - I watched season one! Really a terrific story. I want morrrre! I don't have my hands on season two yet though.

Interesting links I wanted to pass along!

[2] pennswoods's Why Do You Ship What You Ship

Love the comments in that one. I often wonder why I ship my ships so hard and what purpose they serve in my life. I know that my ships mean quite a lot to me. I know that they are satisfying to me to me personally for unique reasons, and that I can be very picky about how they are portrayed. Admittedly my thoughts aren't really coherent enough to come to many conclusions right now, but I think fandom poetry has for me been one of the more useful and satisfying tools I've exercised for this kind of examination.

I heard Jason Isbell on PBS the other night and have been youtube-ing him ever since. I don't stop and appreciate music often enough these days, but luckily he hooked me. Lots of sad stories in mellow arrangements. :) I love everything I've heard from his Southeastern album. His song "Elephant" was the first one I heard and it grabbed me because it deals with cancer. "Cover Me Up" is one of those songs that feels like it has always existed.
